Who are the Town Centre Initiative?
 
The Worthing Town Centre Initiative is a Community Interest Company that generates revenue from activities it undertakes in the Town Centre and then uses these funds to enhance and promote the Town Centre. The Worthing Town Centre Initiative was formed in 1992 as a not for profit organisation by businesses trading in the Town Centre whose goal was to promote the town as a thriving, profitable shopping centre.  On July 5th 2007 the businesses in the Town Centre voted YES to bcoming a Business Improvement District and the BID launched in April 2008.

The Worthing Town Centre Initiative aims to increase the number of times people wish to visit the Town by promoting a clean, safe environment with lots of variety.

What do we do-

Decorative enhancement
  • Fundraising, installation and removal of Christmas Lights
  • Supporting Worthing in Bloom by selling Flower baskets to businesses
Events
  • Planning, organising. regulating and promoting Markets in the town
  • Provide major events in the town, seek funding partners and the promotion and marketing of the events
    - Christmas
    - Summer
Administrative & Community
  • Commenting on planning applications affecting the town centre
  • Write, produce and distribute a Town Centre Newsletter
  • Issue street consents for the Wednesday Market
  • Deal with any issues arising from the Wednesday Market
  • Manage the street activity in the town
  • Manage West End notice board
  • Cleansing reviews and reports to partners with actions for improvements
  • Network with other towns to seek best practise
  • Investigate and initiate projects to enhance the Town Centre
  • Manage and report on footfall figures within the Town Centre
  • Project Management including
    - Fishing feature, with boats and information boards
    - Liverpool Gardens improvements
    - Pocket Guide
    - Seafront Information boards
  • Manage, support and promote Shopwatch
Tourism, Advertising & Promotion
  • Promotion of the Town Centre in the Media
  • Attend meetings to ensure the Town Centre view is expressed
  • Improved signage projects, including signage reviews and provision of signs where appropriate
  • Write produce and distribute, in partnership with Worthing Borough Council, the Worthing Pocket Guide
  • Manage and maintain the advertising sites in the Town Centre
