Worthing Business Improvement District

Worthing businesses are currently voting on the Business Improvement District that has been in place in Worthing since 2008.  A Business Improvement District is where businesses agree to pay a small levy on their business rates and this money is kept locally to deliver a business plan the businesses have developed for the Town. In total 408 businesses will have the opportunity to Vote as only businesses with a rateable value of £12,000 or over will be liable for the levy.  Only businesses being asked to contribute will receive a ballot paper and at least 50% of those voting will need to approve the plans.  The Result will be known on 1st November 2017, Here are some examples of what is currently being provided by the BID :- Floral Displays including Seafront planting Christmas Lights Events (Food Festival, Urban Beach, Christmas Event) Marketing Chewing Gum Removal and Deep Cleaning Town Centre Rangers Business Crime...

Worthing Food Festival 2017

The Worthing Food & Drink Festival returns to Steyne Gardens over the weekend of 16th / 17th September Worthing held its very first Food and Drink Festival in 2012 and it is getting bigger and better year on year. The Worthing Town Centre Initiative, in partnership with Proto Restaurant Group, are delighted that this year the festival is going to be a real Flavour of the Seaside. With around 50 Stalls located in the lovely garden setting there will be something to tempt every palate. Local Chefs will be on hand to create their signature dishes and on Sunday Yuki Gomi, author of Sushi at Home, will be on stage demonstrating how to make Sushi and offering some tasters.   As well as the stalls and cookery demonstrations there will be competitions, and Children’s entertainment from the award-winning Blast Science team. This event is a celebration of the Food and Drink offer in Worthing with many of the local restaurants and bars taking part.   Worthing now has an amazing culinary offer with over 140 places to eat and drink in the Town Centre alone.  We are fast becoming a food destination with many of our restaurants and bars now receiving regional and national recognition....

Montague Street Enhancement

The project is now nearly finished with a completion date of 12th August 2016.  There may still be some works around Liverpool Gardens, for reinstatement, after this date but the area will be fully open to pedestrians.  This was always going to be the most disruptive area for enhancement because of the services and heavy footfall but it will look great when its finished; the space looks so much bigger and now has uninterrupted views to the sea. Further phases are still not funded but Worthing Borough Council and West Sussex Council are both focused on finding grants and budgets for the works to continue.  The Montague Centre, which is owned by New River Retail, has recently gained planning consent for some changes to their property and we understand this work will start in February so further enhancements are already in the...
